Fundraising
In November 2009, the Redemptorists acquired Castlemahon House, Blackrock. Situated in an attractive area of Cork, its location is easily accessible, with other education and community facilities in the vicinity.

In addition to its current ministries, Scala accommodates the Redemptorist partner organisation SERVE, an overseas development and volunteering organisation. It offers young adults opportunities to train in global citizenship and avail of short-term local and overseas volunteering experiences. With outreach in 7 developing countries, SERVE contributes over €1m to programmes that invest in children, empower youth and promote gender equality.

Scala offers young people a place of welcome and promotes an engaged faith for today’s complex world, training in responsible leadership, and a centre for global education. It welcomes people of different faiths and of none as partners to avail of its services. Its conferencing and meeting spaces will be open to all groups that serve the community.

Scala is a modern, exciting and innovative facility offering: a resource centre for schools, community groups and locally based youth initiatives with a youth cafe conference centre that will welcome groups with a wide variety of interests.

The estimated cost of the purchase, renovation and development of Castlemahon House is over €2 million. The Redemptorist Congregation will meet about half of the costs and are appealing for financial help to complete the development at Scala.

Our fundraising strategy will focus on an appeal to the people of Cork and an investment by major donors. In order to reach our target we are seeking commitments spread over two years. We are optimistic that many people who have experienced and value our work will support this important project.
